It has been a long time since I have had a new apron. This was a panel. It went together quickly and I am very happy with how it looks. I don't wear aprons so I'm not sure what I will do with it but it's done.
This is a blog about quilting and my creative life. I am mostly a quilter but I do dabble in all things crafty from time to time which is probably why I have such a pile of UFOs

New Old Projects from my Mom
While visiting my Mom, she offered me some of her projects to complete. Although I was hesitant - heaven knows I have lots of my own - I took a couple.

Quilting Music
I quilt with the radio on and in my world radio means CBC2 classical. Well they have recently changed their line up and the classical music has shrunk to a slot between 9am and 2pm. Although the rest of their programming is fine it is not the right speed for my quilting. So I figured out how to rig my ipad up with speakers, and now I either listen to my own stuff on itunes or more lately youtube.
My current favourite You Tube channel is by Wendy Hardman. It is a compilation of old hymns and her original piano compositions. She even has sing a longs. I'm allowed to sing in my sewing room :0)
And the photos that accompany them show up on the ipad beautifully. I am considering getting her to send me her CDs but for now I just listen. Here's a sample:

More of the Spring Stitching Club
I seem to be running a week behind but I'm OK with that.
I am delighted with Mollie's embroidery patterns and although I modifies some of the thread colours slightly - I didn't seem to have all the ones she recommended.... I still feel like I am part of the club...

Double T Blocks
This is soooo clever. Check out Anita Grossman Solomon at Make it Simpler. She shows how to make this block in the latest Quiltmaker magazine.

Spring Stitching Club
I signed on to Mollie Johanson's Spring Stitching Club. I couldn't resist as it's a hexagon pattern.
She suggested the centre of the hexagon flower should be in linen. As I don't have any linen, I decided to use a plainish cream fabric (insert shrug...)
Then she suggested we use solid fabric for the petals of the hexies.... ahhh, I didn't have a very good selection of that so.... I went with some gorgeous fabrics I got at the wonderful Drumheller Quilt Shop called Bit's and Pieces. They are from the Bella Collection by Amanda Murphy. As well as some Robert Kaufman Kyoto fabrics that I deemed worthy of this project.

Handkerchiefs by Hand
My son works outside in all weather and we have been getting some cold stuff. He decided he would like some cloth handkerchiefs. We looked on line and they were surprisingly expensive. Lo and behold, I had some lovely lawn fabric in a nice check. He's happy they are not white.
But I went a step further...
I am hand hemming them for him. I think it is a really nice finish and it is easy to do while I watch TV...
I watched Amy Wright's video . It's very easy to follow and quite clever. I'm sure I would not have thought of this on my own. With the lines of the check it is even easier to be straight.
