Coming along....this is my go to for travelling and when I am away. It fits in here...
I am making progress slowly on this but it is very satisfying.
This is a blog about quilting and my creative life. I am mostly a quilter but I do dabble in all things crafty from time to time which is probably why I have such a pile of UFOs

Planned layout for Spring Embroidered Hexies
So I got an idea to lay out the big hexies with 60degree triangles between...
I am not sure that is very clear but now that some of them are sewn together I can take another picture.

New and Old Our Father Prayer Quilt
After nearly finishing the Our Father Quilt from the pattern by Elefantz. I thought of how beautiful it is...
Better pictures coming....
I was inspired to make my own original embroidered Our Father Prayer,
I am so excited with how the first block went that I had to show it off before I got around to pressing.... I did wash it quickly, tho to confirm the my DMC 939 is in fact colour fast. Small Yeah...
It is done in a mix of stem stitch, satin stitch, and back stitch, with either one or two threads.

The Lord's Prayer is pieced together
I finally finished the Lord's Prayer Quilt to the binding. I felt I was quite inspired with my machine quilting and it went quickly.
This is just the beginning but I managed to take the quilted sandwich to my Mom's for a bit of a show and tell, as she is my guiding light and the one who started me down this quilting road. Anyways, I also managed to leave it at her house and then I visited again and still forgot to get it into my truck. So now it is a couple of provinces away from me and my sewing machine. It will make it's way home I am sure and then I will add the binding and have another photo op.

Edwin's Pillow
I had a chat with my DD and she explained to me that her three year old would like a pillow and pillowcase combo like his big brother's.
We got out the new down pillow we had. I don't remember the down being so....downy, but after much fluffy transferring....
and lots of vacuuming, I had a nicely stuffed little boy pillow.
Then the pillow case. Just a few embroidery stitches...
And there you are....
I hope he likes the bug print.

A new riff on Mollie's Spring Embroidery Hexies
I have been away but busy. I continue to work on the spring hexie embroidery designs I downloaded for free from Wild Olive's wonderful, generous blog.
I made the flower rings as Mollie suggested but then I thought I would applique the flower rings on to a larger hexagon
I used the tried and true newspaper and made my own templates for the hexagons.
Soon I had a dozen done...
So pretty. I am not sure where this is going....stay tuned.

Green and Leafy Embroidery
Wow, I am really liking how this is going. Take a look.
The dark green shaded leaves are done in backstitch (I think it is called) but the variegated blue/green (DMC 4030) is done in stem stitch. I wanted it to have a weight to it so it wouldn't disappear behind the darker green.

Green and Leafy Design in the works
I feel like lately, I am kind of fixated on embroidery. And then I was inspired to make my own design. It is a leafy design as I was in leafy Manitoba when I got inspired. I started out thinking I would do some Hawaiian applique but it had a mind of it's own, so here we go...
The first layer of stitching surrounds some shaded leaf shapes. I liked it but then I thought I would add another layer
More lines later and the shadows will be in the variegated thread I think...Stay tuned.

The Lord's Prayer continues
I am a bit behind as the new section came out from Elefantz Craftsy shop but I am working on.
Hallowed is such an important word. I think it is the essence of our interaction with the Lord. 'regarded as holy; venerated; sacred'
That's all there is to say.

Sparrow Wall Hanging
As you might know, I am a fan of Jenny over at Elefantz. She makes lovely embroidery patterns. They are simple yet profound and I admire them a lot.
Now look what I made:
Jenny offered this Sparrow quote embroidery for free on her Craftsy page. (These are the lyrics of a hymn from my childhood.)
So I followed her tutorial on how to add fabric to your embroideries. ( You can find it under tutorials on her home page at Elefantz.)
Every time I look at it I have to hum the song....I can hardly wait to see how it will look on my mother's wall.... She may even sing out loud...I hope so.

The Lord's Prayer embroidery
Of course I can't stop starting something new and I love embroidery projects. They are so portable, and with summer coming we will be on the road a bit more I think.
So I jumped in to the free Lord's Prayer embroidery project presented by Jenny over at Elephantz. How wonderful does that look?
So I have been busy picking out my fabric...

More of Mollie's spring embroidery Hexies
These are adorable. Wild Olive's host Mollie is stitching up a storm I mean spring shower....
So cute, I've been doing two of each pattern and my flower petal rings of hexies are almost done. Hexagons are probably my favourite.

More of the Spring Stitching Club
I seem to be running a week behind but I'm OK with that.
I am delighted with Mollie's embroidery patterns and although I modifies some of the thread colours slightly - I didn't seem to have all the ones she recommended.... I still feel like I am part of the club...

Flimsy Done of Little Stepping Stones
Looks at this, with the input of my DH I finally got some borders on this one and I'm reallly happy with the result. I even patched on the backing...

Red redwork embroidery blocks
I had worked these blocks many moons (read years, maybe) ago and realized they would be a great addition to another quilt top I am working on so this morning I sashed them. After putting on and ripping off a green sashing I new this was the right fabric and am really pleased with just the blocks.
I apologize for not knowing where these designs come from. I believe they are by Bronwyn Hayes. If anyone knows differently, please tell me.

These two blocks are definitely Bronwyn. They are from the May 2003 Australian Country Threads special edition called Stitchery. In case you are interested here is a link to her Pinterest page....are you back yet - I know wonderful, huh?

Redwork finds a home with Little Step Stones
Further to the redwork story, I love it when I have an inspiration. I thought if I just laid out the redwork with the Little Step Stones blocks I have been working on...
I believe I am on to something...
I was particularly happy when I found this Robert Kaufman fabric called Splish Splash in my stash. I think it really adds a special zing to the embroidery.

Embroidery progress
This is a design I made of flowers in a circle...I'm on a bit of a circle thing right now...
I coloured in some of the petals and leaves as an experiment to see how the embroidery looks. I feel that sometimes it just looks not substantial enough especially in a quilt. I bought some fabric colour felt pens at Michaels and just started fooling around. I'll show you when it is more complete.

A Slight Detour
Here I am going off the trail again...do you see a rabbit?
First I was tempted by some beautiful floss, and inspired by some lovely flower wreaths made by others -- I think I can do this...here's the sketch
I was looking at the July/Aug 2012 of Quiltmaker magazine, and I saw the pillow designed by Kellie Wulfson. I love her work.
I thought I would try designing my own version. So with a tip of the hat to Kellie here's how min is shaping up

Pillow Case for my Grandson
I got ahold of the book S is for Stitch and it is adorable. Thank you to Kristyne Czepuryk for all her delicious ideas. I just had to use her alphabet to anagram my grandson's name for his new pillow case.
The embroidery went quickly....
And after a quick trip to Fabricland for some nursery rhyme fabric from VIP (my DH helped with that !) I zipped up this pillowcase just in time for a visit from the recipient.
